Abstract

An understanding of the services that ecosystems provide at the landscape level provides insight into the relationship between natural capital, ecosystem services, and human well-being. One of the available ecosystem services is ecotourism. Compared to conventional tourism, ecotourism has been reported as a sustainable measure to bridge conservation goals and the livelihoods of communities around protected areas. As a tourism industry, the role of environmental communication is very important for the development of ecotourism. This paper describes how local wisdom is implemented by the community in the development of the Nyarai Salibutan ecotourism object located in the Gamaran Forest area, Lubuk Alung, West Sumatra.
