Abstract

Mikhail Bakhtin is an example of Russian literature's many examples of the chronotope. The chronotope is the intrinsic connectedness of temporal and spatial coordinates in literature. The chronotope is utalised in Russian literature to describe the narrative unique cultural and historical context. The interplay between time and space has been realised in the beautiful Russian literary tradition that runs from Dostoevsky's St. Petersburg to the provincial settings of Tolstoy's works. Additionally, the chronotope has been essential for fabrication of its particular narrative styles and thematic interests in Russian literature
